Good deal on a tiny camera

Yesterday, I picked up a Canon SD600 Digital Elph at OfficeMax. This is the same model that my parents got last year; I’ve already logged time taking pictures of Elijah with theirs.

The one I got was a floor sample at the Southtown Plaza store. It was already on clearance, which I’d noted two weeks ago. OfficeMax ran a sale this week that discounted all clearance items an extra 15%, so I was hoping it would still be on the shelf when I came back. It was there, and seemed too good of a deal to pass up: we got a phone that takes great pictures, requires little effort to use, has a nice continuous shooting mode (like our Elura 100 camcorder), and can slip into a pocket or purse.

I still have my Olympus C-750, but its lack of an auto-focus assist lamp means that it fails routinely in low light situations. I’ve had a lot of difficulty with its manual focus, just because the on-screen display doesn’t give me enough detail to determine whether I’ve got it in focus or not.
