About

Hello, I’m Jaharmi, and I’ll be your host on this Web page.

I come from and live in the western portion of New York state, in the United States of America. I’m a technology enthusiast.

I use the Web to keep in touch with family, friends, and acquaintances. I also want to give back to the Internet community, because it has given so much opportunity to me. Therefore, you’ll see a mix of personal and technological subject matter intertwingled here.

Irreality is my personal Web site and it’s a labor of love that I’ve built over the years. It started with the text-heavy, grey-background pages I created in 1994 — ready to be viewed in Mozilla Communications’ Netscape 0.79 (before their product was 1.0, and before later name transpositions and changes) and hosted on a low-power Web server with the minimal bandwidth afforded by a SLIP connection to a university serial terminal server.

Over the years, it has taken on many forms. For the longest period, I hosted Irreality in Userland Manila because it was simply the first software that let me have the kind of capabilities we now regard as “blogging.” I’m fascinated by the art form of the blog and as far as I am concerned, it is a great expression of the power of the Internet.

As of this writing, Irreality has moved onto other host software and even an honest-to-goodness Web host, but the same spirit remains. Despite rosy pronouncements like that — and a site slogan of “reality is merely the fuel for dreams” — this site is not all about unicorns and rainbows and nonsense. It’s just a collection of thoughts, experiences, points of discussion, and topics I want to share. I hope you enjoy what you find!
